Open Studio at Artspace and Exhibition

Getting ready for the Open Studio is always stressful ! But Joel is so lucky to have plenty of helpers , or family to lend a hand .  Sister Kierstie and mum Teresa  ( not nuns !)went down to finish hanging the work and cleaning up the studio at Art Space . Joel was there all w/e and it was really busy , 300 visitors in all ! It looked great .
Then Joel and I took  the rest of the paintings over to hang on the Sunday before his exhibition , Elisabeth came to help again thank God as Joel was quite exhausted and finding it hard to make any decisions. It all went up quite quickly once we worked out a system and then we went to the 10th Hole on the seafront for tea , they serve the most unbelievable cakes there , it you like cream cakes thats the place to go !

Its a lovely space for the work and so peaceful , maybe it has something to do with it being in an old church ? Not so many visitors during the week but the ones who did come loved the show and it was well worth doing.

Today was a sad day for me. It was my wedding anniversary and it would have been 42 years! I went to the Joel Howie 'Changing Landscapes' exhibition at ArtSpace, Portsmouth. Joel's work is bold and brave but also has a subtle feel of understatement about it- if that makes sense! I'm looking forward to seeing more of Joel's work'
May I also take this opportunity to congratulate ArtSpace for putting on this exhibition. They are doing a great job in bringing contemporary artwork into the public domain. Well done. It's this sort of vitality that cheers one up on 'blue' days! Posted by Paul Wild
